The clients' main objectives were to have a outdoor dining area, with a quiet sitting area and lots of grass area for their kids. So I created a very versatile deck, including a wide bench/counter with ceramic tiles that could be used to place plates or serving dishes, and used as a bar from the patio area. A bench was incorporated around the existing deck for the children to sit on or as an informal area on which to place a cushion and sit and read. Also, a storage area was provided underneath the deck.

A lattice screen was incorporated for privacy with good distance between the slots to enable vines to grow up and through the lattice to provide a green screen once the vines grew. The planting was kept simple and limited to the border to provide a good area of grass as requested by the client.

The client enjoys the garden and recently emailed to say: “After seven years, we continue to enjoy our lovely back yard thanks to you! We appreciate the thought you put into its design.”
